How to install Debian

What is debian?

The debian logo

Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project; hence the name GNU/Linux.

Debian GNU/Linux provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 15490 packages, precompiled software bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine.

CD-ROM Distributions 14 Files ( debian-31r0a-i386-binary-1.iso - this is the boot cd ) 650Mb per file

Note The only required CD to install is the boot cd, the 13 others files are package that can be fetch over the Internet

Installation Process

Step one - booting with linux

The 1st screen you should see after succeed into booting

Press return and boot your debian linux

Note: You can get more information and boot tips if you press the F1 key

Step two - Choosing language

A successful bootup would lead you to such a screen

Debian makes a few probes to find a suitable device.
